Happy new year to all my readers and friends, May this New Year bring newly found prosperity, love, happiness and delight in your life. I am writing this post on 01.01.09 , i.e. in new year. Though this is new year as per calender terms but for students like me this is not the new year. Students new year came when the semester ends after summer exams. The new year, i.e. 2009 will just change the writing practice in date format i.e. 2009 instead of 2008 and nothing else. But still one major change can be observed here.
Yes, one of the major change for this new year is the Google pagerank update. On 31 DEC 08 Google updated it Pagerank index. Pagerank is Google’s own ranking technology for deciding the position in search engine results. This blog get Pagerank 4 this update. In last update it was 3 and before that it was 2. TheChetan.com faced 3 Pagerank updates up till now and all are +ve with increasing in ranking. Google updates it Pagerank 3-4 times in year and this was the last update of 2008.
Apart from the main domain i.e. home page pagerank, i got much higher pagerank in few inner pages. One of my page has Pagerank 5. This page is my WordPress plugin WP-Copyprotect page. Another page to get higher Pagerank is Smooth scroll links plugin. Pagerank 4 is given to that page by google. Many internal pages have pagerank ranging from 3 to 0.
I did much work for achieving this pagerank, all those efforts are now infront of you all, after achieving PR 5 at one of my page. Now i am planning to start freelancing work for SEO.

Many people think that Pagerank is not related with traffic, but i personally think that “Higher the Pagerank more the traffic to your site”. I came to this conclusion after my personal experience. When TheChetan.com was on PR 3 the traffic was near to 200 Unique visitors per day, but now it is near to 500-600 Unique visitors per day with thousands of page views.
So whats your current position ?

Great to see that your blog escalates to PR4 on this update. I personally think PR has no direct relation to traffic but it helps in ranking higher in SERP. So PR somewhat helps in traffic in an indirect approach. Cheers for the success in here.

Thanks for visiting my blog Chetan. Happy New Year too.
Like Marlene,I wasn’t aware of the latest Google PR update. I was disappointed the last time because I dropped from PR3 to PR2 last September.
Abi mentioned the WP-Copyprotect plugin before as I am having problems with content theft then. I am glad to know you were the author, nice to meet you.

Personally I think PR (toolbar PR) has no effect on traffic but its rather the opposite SERP traffic has an effect on PR.
If people come via the SERP’s to your site and stay…it shows it is relevant and therefore will increase in the SERP’s and get you PR…Though this wont be noticeable’ till the next Toolbar PR update which is always dated anyway

PR definitely has some use; why would Google put in so much resource to implement it if it was flawed. The idea of uselessness of PR has stamped from those webmasters who have had their PR reduced for some actions that Google did not appreciate.
My blog managed a PR 3 it the first update and it was a very encouraging progress for me. I am aiming for PR of 4 by the next update. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Drops in PR hasn’t effected any SERPs and traffic is steady away on all of my sites that I’ve had time to check. Everyone seems to be complaining about losses in PR or boasting about improvements, but is anyone seeing any changes in positions? If so can you be specific, keyterm, number of pages dropped, etc. Thanks.

Although the Pagerank toolbar only updates every few months, google actually updates a sites rank at their end in realtime i.e. whenever it crawls other sites and finds backlinks to yours.

My Page Rank increased from 0 to 3 in this update. I am aiming for 5 in the next update. Is that possible?

I do not know if Google updates the pagerank, but I already has over 1 years with a PR4, every time Google does not put it more difficult to attract visitors to our site, Google wants all the web traffic for them, is not just be left to compete and I am trying to get by with Google Adsense.Pero really earn a pittance if you have it 5 to attract more visitors.
Greetings.

Wow I see you’re up to PR5 now! I hope you go ahead with your SEO freelancing, you should do well.
I run a PS3 price comparison site that list deals and offers on the Playstation 3 games console. The PR is lower than your own, but it is a lot harder to get links into a commercial website like this.
