Currently gaming fever is on me. Me and my friends group play Counter strike every evening on our Laptops. Just few weeks ago i installed Ubuntu on my laptop but for gaming , i uninstalled it and installed Windows XP.
But again after few days, the gaming fever came to ground, and i installed Knoppix linux on my Laptop. I have fad of using various Operating systems. I tried many Operating systems (After computer upgrade, almost any OS was running my system) like different Linux flavors, SUN Solaris, all most all windows versions [Including Longhorn, Home Server edition, etc] I was trying Knoppix first time. Its almost same as Ubuntu, and yes its free (But, No free CDs, Download it and burn it and use it)
Currently Linux is gaining popularity. Many people , many offices are switching them selves to Linux. I am planning to do some Linux certification for my future. As a computer science student, i personally think that Open source has a bright and wide future. There are thousands of Linux versions available to download and use. Most of them are free but few are paid.
Check out the list of various linux distribution.
I recommend you to use Linux operating system over other operating system, there are many reasons. But few of the most important are “Very less virus threat (negligible)”, “Free of cost”.

I know that you had installed new OS ….
I have too tried Ubuntu before , but now it’s time to taste new OS. Knoppix Linux seems to be more hardware friendly and what else a Linux OS needs ….
Will have to download it first .
Happy new year 2 you

How about trying Windows 7?
Well its an awesome operating system that operates faster than Vista or XP or even Linux(compared with Ubuntu, KNOPPIX, Open Suse, Fedora, but its slower when compared with linux in xfce desktop environment).
Even it has resolved many networking problems that were found in Vista and with the use of VmWare Player, almost any software can be run in Windows 7 too.

Well Thats true, but if you have good configuration, then almost none of the operating systems give you the performance that you system is capable of, except for Vista and Windows 7(the only thing they lack is that their source code is not public, if it would then may be these would be my fav)

I am currently waiting for final version of Windows 7, recently it is released for download in beta. The software availability is major problem for other OS distributions, which is not the problem for Windows. Lets see how the windows 7 will perform. i havent tried it yet.

I liked ure post.Even I have craze to install and try many OS.But the main thing i in spite of being free is it can run on any minimal req system and no worries for drivers. Well i used it for a long time when my 160 GB hdd crashed now the live cd has its own advantage when u dont have haed desk like i was not havin
But again when u say abt gaming fever there should be OS manufactured so that it can run windows (.exe) files to..
Even me being an I.S student want do someting on Open Source

The exe files are made only for Windows, you can use Virtual machines in your Linux to run the, but its not as effective as we are running it in Windows itself.

I have now completed my experimental phase with Windows 7, its good that you don’t have installed it coz its not even worth trying.
Now I take back my words I previously posted in favour of it(those were only prejudices as I had not finished reviewing it)
Its good only if you are a gamer(games performance increase considerably but softwares face crashes).
Now I will be going with gOS(if i can figure out how to run it on an x64 platform as its available only for x86)
One thing I would like to ask from you is about WordPress.
May I know if there exist any stable backup technique so that my posts(and other’s too) and user accounts can remain secure?
and if possible, just a word from you on statpress type plugin(something that can show real time n detailed status still not messing with the site’s sql database(google analytics is not real time and does not give complete info))

I think Gos can run on x64 platforms. I am also using x64 platform. Most of the OS made for x86 can run on x64, give try.
About WordPress, For backing up the wordpress just take the full database backup + wp-content directory backup, so that even if your server crashes with all your content you can use your backed up data. generally i used to take a backup every week or after every post.
For Real time stats, you can use “Sitemeter” or best one is “WordPress.com stats” i am using both. Google for those terms.
