After release of Ubuntu 8.10 now Canonical launched the latest and new version of Ubuntu Linux. The new version is 9.04 and have codename as “Jaunty Jackalope”. This new version of Ubuntu is released on 23rd of April 2009. Means just 4 days ago.
This new version is released after 1year of last release which was 8.04, this new released do not contain any special changes like the previous one. But this time they released a special version for Notebook users, called “Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix” which is specially tested on few branded know laptops.
I just cant understand one issue here at Ubuntu’s download page. Check this image

I was just shocked that Ubuntu is preferring the users to use the older version and its support is more than the newer version. !! I don’t know why, but its strange.Same case is with the server edition of Ubuntu, the older version 8.04 is support until 2013 and the newer 9.04 if support until 2010.
According to Matt Cutts – The Google engineer, the new ubuntu 9.04 boots in just 7.83 sec !! Now its time to check it on my system which is not as high powered as the Matt’s system.
But still as always Ubuntu is free to download and it really rocks with its amazing graphics and amazing features. I am still using Ubuntu in my laptop.
If you want Ubuntu on CD for free of cost go to ShipIt.Ubuntu.com and place a order for free CDs, The Ubuntu people will send you the latest version of Ubuntu for FREE !!. I ordered on CD for me. But now due to high number of requests they paused taking orders of free CD. So download ubuntu , burn it on CD and enjoy the power of open source.

Yes, it is even better than Windows, just the problem is of high performance games. Game developers like EA doesn’t develop games for Linux
. But if the users will increase the game developers will start working on it. I think you must try it.Also check the availability of drivers for your system, if they are available then you will get Vista like effects in Ubuntu.

Truly glad, by the release of this version, and I swear that I had seen myself installing it in dreams, just a day before it was release, so its like a dream come true….
The most amazing thing for me is that, it can detect my integrated graphics so instead of using VGA I can now use a lot more graphics….
The speedy boot ups, the newer GIMP, the added clarity in fonts(I can feel it), the ext4 FS support, the working Hibernate option, and a lot more awesome things to find out in this release of Ubuntu….
For the dates conflict you mentioned, the only thing that comes to my mind is 9.04 is like 8.04, the release with a lot of beta applications, so the stable one will be 9.10 that will come after 6 months and it will be provided a lot better support….

You asked why the old version is supported for longer.
Most releases are only supported for 18 months – then you should upgrade. But every 3 years they make a “Long term support” version, that they will support for the next 3 years. If you don’t want to have to upgrade often, you install that one. The long term release is “8.04 LTS”, out in 2008, supported until 2012.
It’s the kind of thing that matters more to companies than real people.

Yeah..I got my DVD couple of weeks back along with the stickers.
Linux Mint v7 is also out. I prefer Mint as it contains everything that is in Ubuntu with better interface and many additional features and improvements.
