Recently Facebook introduced SSL i.e. HTTPS support. Many people still don’t have any idea about what exactly is SSL or HTTPS. The HTTPS or SSL revolves around something knows as SSL certificates. Whether you realize it or not, SSL certificates are something which are more than likely to be encountered by internet users on a regular basis. Yet, for many people, it is not a term with which they are familiar.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It functions, basically, as an internet security measure, which are put in place in order to prove the identity of almost any website which you might choose to visit.

A number of websites might also require data to be exchanged between your internet browser and the site itself. This is particularly true of online shopping sites, when you may need to enter information such as your bank details, but can also apply to passwords and addresses. In such cases, the SSL certificate is proof that the information which you supply cannot be intercepted by a third party, who might otherwise tap into this connection.

It is usually easy to spot which sites have an SSL certificate, as they will show ‘https://’ at the beginning of their URL address, ie the usual http with the addition of an ‘s’ to prove that it is secure. Another way to identify whether or not a website has a secure connection is through the small padlock image which will usually appear in the search bar of the web browser. This is most often found on transaction pages, after you have indicated that you wish to make a purchase. You should also be able to click on the padlock itself, which will enable you to view the full SSL certificate details.

For those hosting a website, the advantage of having an SSL certificate is that your customers will be more confident when visiting your webpages and using your services. If your business site is primarily used as a platform for e-commerce, then such authentication can prove essential in generating the desired profits. If your web page is deemed secure and trustworthy by those who visit it, it is more likely to gain popularity.

Internet security is often a priority for those who carry out online transactions, and so SSL certificates can prove to be an essential investment for many businesses and organization. They work by linking a cryptographic key to details such as a particular domain name, location and business contact details. Once such authentication has been established, the connection between the web server and the internet browser is secure, and not at risk from third party infiltration.
Now most of the people will resist them selves from getting attracted by the glory of TAJ. Because of these attacks Mumbai including India and whole world was shocked. But now the future is one of the major concern in front of Taj and Oberai owners.

Taj owner, Mr. Ratan Tata announced that the TAJ Hotel will be ready within a year, with its full glory and full functionality, but now it depends on tourists what they think. Though many people will visit Taj or Oberai for curiosity about the attacks.

Recently one more time fire was broken into Taj but it was due to short circuit, currently work at Taj is in full swing to start it as soon as possible.

Now a days if any one think about top level domain blogging, WordPress blogging softwares comes first in mind. Due to huge popularity of WordPress, now it may be Hackers next target [may be hackers are hacking many wordpress blogs].

Currently WordPress itself doesn’t have that much security constraints in there software[though very frequent versions are launched by them, it is not that much secure], so better to take care about your wordpress blog by taking some preventive actions from hackers.

In this post, i will introduce you to few WordPress security related plug-ins that MUST be installed for a wordpress blog.If you know few more and good plug-ins please share with me.

Making a strong password is not the only key for a highly secure log-in. In wordpress default Username is “ADMIN“. Which is know to all, so just guest the password by “Guessing attack” or use “Brute force” attack and get the password. Changing of username from wordpress panel is not allowed and not possible, but it is possible through your database admin panel [Like PHPmyAdmin, etc] but it is much risky and tricky. Janis Elsts developed a nice plug-in for this work.

PLUG-IN : Change Admin Username
Download link [3KB]
Plug-in Homepage

This is a great plug-in for securing your wordpress blog, it will change your Admin Username as per your needs and hence Highly secure WordPress blog.

One more thing, do you want to keep track of IP address of user log-ins in your wordpress blog ? or want to keep eyes on failed [or successful] log-in attacks on your blog ?, there is one more nifty Plug-in developed by Stephen Merriman. Check it out.

PLUG-IN : Login Logger
Download link[3KB]
Plug-in Homepage

This plug-in will keep track of your blogs Log-in attempts with time and IP-address of logger.

This is one more plug-in called “WP Security Scan” this plug-in is well know for its security tests for WordPress security.

I am using all above plug-ins and yes all are working fine and they are really MUST HAVE for any wordpress blogger, else hackers on your way.

Unlike Microsoft Windows, Ubuntu doesn’t have Hidden attribute in folder properties, but rather it has better option to protect or hide the important folders and files. Linux is famous for security and Ubuntu has no exception. Ubuntu can protect your folder without using any type of software.

So to protect your important files in Ubuntu follow these steps.

STEP 1:
Create a new folder anywhere you want, and again create new folder inside that folder. Lets consider we have created two folders “TheChetan.com F1″ and inside that “TheChetan.com F2″. Now put all your important files inside inner folder “TheChetan.com F2″.

STEP 2:
Right click on 1st folder i.e. “TheChetan.com F1″ and Go to properties.
Then select “Permissions” tab. and then select “List files only” in “Folder access” option. If you have multiuser system then do same thing for all users by selecting the proper group.

In just two steps you have protected your files inside a folder, Now when ever somebuddy tries to open the inner folder he/she will get the “Permission Error”.

You can do this trick on single folder or single file, but using two folders you can hide the actual file names too. Actually this is just a basic folder protection trick for Ubuntu, just replacement for Hidden attribute in Windows OS.

Error !!
