Have you ever imagine how the Gmail provides 7 to 8 GB of space for free ? day by day thousands and millions of people are signing up for Gmail and billions of emails are sent and received through out. so how this is managed by Google ? Whats the secret ?

Actually Google is using a concept called “Cloud computing“. Whats that ?

Cloud computing is an umbrella term used to describe the use of computing services that are hosted on a network (typically the internet) and used by PCs (or other devices) without having to specify specific servers or systems.

Using Cloud computing Google can easily extend there storage space and processing power over the cloud of computers so that when ever they need more they just spread there network to wide area and hence they can easily provide you huge storage without failure.

Now most of the email providers, video sharing sites like Youtube, document sharing sites, file sharing sites are using cloud computing to provide best and maximum facilities to there users.

So this post in about Hostgator stickers, just today i received my Hostgator stickers from Houston, TX USA. In white envelope. The sticker consists of simple Hostgator logo i.e. dragon eating “H” and HostGator.com written below it.

What ever… i am really impressed by HostGator they are just awesome.. from support to the quality of service and everything.. just awesome.

There servers are underpowered. They even cant face the traffic of 1000 Unique visitors per day !! . There database server is also very poor. My error_log file (present under root directory of your wordpress installation) was full with errors of database server. The errors were like “WordPress database error MySQL server has gone away for query” clearly notifying the power of there database servers.

So i decided to change the host servers, my friend Abhishek is using Hostgator service. I have seen the power of there host servers. They are good, and one of the most important fact was there support system. When my site was down at iWhic, there support system replied to my question after about 24Hrs and my account was restarted after 48Hrs.

Here at Hostgator the support system is really fast.Even i can now directly chat with support people if i have some urgent problem. Currently i shifted all my sites to hostgator and all are working superb with no tension of high CPU usages.Hostgator allows 25% of CPU usages for 90seconds. But as there servers are really high performance i never seen my CPU usages more than a percent.

Currently i am happy with the hostgator, lets see what happens in the future. Hope for the best and ready for the worst

Which host are you using ? are you happy with it ?

As per the Error statement, the error clearly notifies that the connection between the WordPress and MySQL database was not proper. I just searched Google and seen many results, then i got the idea that its a General problem for many wordpress users.

Rob given a solution for this problem with few patched files to be replaced, You can read his article “Workaround for WordPress database error“. The article give detailed information about this problem. He also given files to be replaced to solve this problem.

According to him, This error is cause due to improper coordination between database and WordPress PHP commands.

According to Rob ,

When someone tries to view one of your WordPress web pages, the PHP code first opens a connection to the MySQL server. Subsequent queries to the MySQL server rely on the connection remaining open, and do not re-open the connection. If the connection to the server happened to have shut down before a query is made, then WordPress will display this error.

So for that you need to change the value of “wait_timeout” variable, either ask your site hosting admin to do it for your else you can do it by your self by tweaking your wordpress file named wp-db.php.

Rob given replacement files for WordPress upto version 2.6.1 but recently WordPress 2.7 is released so how to do the patch for WordPress 2.7 ?

Here i am including the file to be replaced by original “wp-db.php” file for WordPress 2.7.

Make sure you Backup your database and other files.

In above Workaround file, i just added

$this->query("set session wait_timeout=600");

in line number 334 in original file.

So do Check your Error log file today, else this may cause increase in your site loading time.
